Bengaluru's second airport: still no site — so don't buy land on rumours
Kanakapura Road, Kunigal Road near Nelamangala and new Harohalli parcels are all in the conversation. A deeper feasibility study is under way.
As of late September 2026, the Karnataka government had not announced a final site for Bengaluru's second airport. The Airports Authority of India completed a pre-feasibility study on three shortlisted sites — two on Kanakapura Road (Chudahalli and Somanahalli) and one on Kunigal Road near Nelamangala — but did not recommend a single location, flagging restricted airspace, rocky terrain and hills.
In July 2026, D K Shivakumar suggested looking at Harohalli in his Kanakapura constituency, and three further parcels were identified there. The state has invited consultancy bids for a deeper study covering financial viability, passenger load and connectivity. Wildlife concerns around Bannerghatta and land acquisition remain hurdles.
Land prices around rumoured airport sites often spike on speculation and fall back when a different site is chosen. If you're tempted by 'airport-side plots' on Kanakapura Road or near Nelamangala, value them on today's fundamentals — access, approvals, water — and treat an airport as a lottery ticket, not a plan.
